Artist's Bio
Li Long is currently pursuing an MFA at the University of Macau. Her work explores the dynamic interplay between traditional Chinese artistic philosophy and contemporary expression, blending classical ink and brush techniques on Xuan paper with innovative mixed media and personal themes. Through this approach, she aims to develop a distinctive visual language that reinterprets traditional painting in a modern context, infused with elements of memory and imagination. Her piece “Lingxiao” was awarded third prize in the 7th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Schools Art Exhibition and was also recognized in the Guangdong Higher Education Institutions Art Biennial. It also received the Golden Award in the 2nd “Art China • Art Education Innovation Achievement Exhibition”.
Long Art
Her artistic practice explores the intersection of memory, dreams, and childlike wonder, centered around the intimate and playful presence of Cho Cho, her cat. She works with a variety of mixed media—including traditional Chinese painting on绢 (juan), hand-beaded elements, sequins, fabric, spray paint, and buttons—to create richly textured and layered compositions. This experimental approach allows her to merge craft and fine art, celebrating both materiality and narrative. She is particularly drawn to the tactile quality of handmade beading, which brings a personal and meticulous energy to each piece. While excited by the potential of these materials, she is also exploring how to harmoniously integrate them without compromising the delicate nature of绢. This balance between fragility and embellishment reflects her broader inquiry into how tenderness and strength coexist—both in art and in life. Through an innocent, imaginative lens, she constructs a whimsical world that blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy, inviting viewers to reconnect with their own sense of nostalgia and curiosity.
Featured Artworks
My carefully curated collection of iconic works embodies the harmony between traditional ink art and modern interpretation.
Calligraphy
Chinese Landscape Painting, or Shanshuihua, is the soul of Chinese art. It goes beyond depicting real scenery to express the philosophical idea of harmony between humanity and the universe.
Figure Painting
Chinese Figure Painting is a traditional art form dedicated to portraying the human image. Unlike Western portraiture, it emphasizes capturing the subject's inner spirit and character over physical realism.
Landscape Painting
Chinese Landscape Painting, or "Shanshui" (Mountain-Water), is more than just a picture of nature; it is a philosophical concept. Its purpose is to capture the spiritual essence and eternal energy of the natural world, rather than a realistic scene.
Bird-and-Flower Painting
Chinese Bird-and-Flower Painting is a genre where nature becomes a language of symbols. It depicts subjects like flowers, birds, and insects not just for their beauty, but to represent human virtues and emotions.
